Novel review: Blood and Gold by Anne Rice

Blood and Gold is one of the novels in Vampire Chronicles by a famous Gothic author, Anne Rice. It is a story about Marius, the golden-haired vampire, who reveals the secrets of his two-thousand-year existence. He is a secret blood hunter by night, a filthy killer of humans and lives in a civilized life. He is also a patrician in Ancient Rome and the protector of the Queen and King of the vampires.

There is a lot of history of Italy that is fairly interesting and a few other vampires he runs into but forgetfully, except for meeting Santino, an evil blood drinker who believes he is a child of Satan. Throughout his long life, Marius observes many world events including the fall of the Roman Empire. He finds mortals that he loves and converts them into vampires, but never ever remains with him for long after changing. He also makes many enemies with one nearly killing him, causing centuries of healing before recovering.

Personally, I think the tone and the book is very depressing and sad because for a vampire who lives for thousands of years, loneliness would naturally surround him. What intrigues me most is because the main character, Marius, is the most intelligent than other characters. Obviously, he has been living for many years and has plenty of time to discover knowledge almost about anything.

I have always enjoyed any novels by Anne Rice. I fell in love with her novel since I first encountered the first novel in Vampire Chronicles, which is titled 'Interview with the Vampire'.
I love Anne Rice's vampires because they seem so cultured, intelligent, and have interest in arts, whether the visual arts, books or music. If we compared other vampire stories from different authors, most of their characters are pure evil and uncivilized. If you loved this novel, I would like to suggest you to watch some of the familiar movies from the Vampire Chronicles such as, 'Interview with the Vampire', starred by Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt or another movie entitled, 'The Queen of the Damned', starred by Aaliyah and Stuart Townsend.

I have read all the series in Vampire Chronicles. As for 'Blood and Gold', it is the eighth book in the series. However, if you intend to watch the movies, it might be quite confusing since the real story based on the novel is much more detail than the movie.

For crying out loud: It's Jon Foo!

This month, let’s give the spotlight to JON FOO !! Real name Jonathan Patrick Foo, born in 30 October 1982, a Scorpio. Did I say Scorpio?? Same as me! 17 DAYS left before his birthday! So this will be a special feature this month in my blog, dedicated specially for him! Great to know we have something in common ;) He is a Chinese mixed Irish actor who started out as a stuntman. Both his parents practiced martial arts, specifically karate and judo. He began training wushu seriously when he was 15. A source also mentioned that he used to join a circus. Well I have no doubt in that just by watching him doing that almost impossible stunt *melting* This buff heart-throb is apparently my new obsession. He stole my heart from his leading role as Jin Kazama in the movie Tekken which was released in 2010. Since then, I have been searching all over the web to find out what he’s into and his background details (stalker much?) haha. Bet he steals every girl’s heart now including mine! Wha...

Child Prodigy

Surrounded by texts and endless scripts, Silent war constantly played inside my head, Expectation rose and filled with guilt, Controlled by rules and filled with fear, I longed to be freed from what I am, I longed to taste the most simple thing in life, Break the curfews and joking with friends, Take a day off and kicking the sand, Emptiness helplessly wrapped my lonely heart, Parents’ love was no longer touched, Only by facts and theories indulged.

Early Reading History

some background of my first reading experience =) Honestly, I started to have the ability to read when I was in standard 1, it was almost by the end of that year when I figured out that I could read and spell correctly. The first book that I bought was actually a comic, it was Crayon Shin Chan volume 7. I still remember the volume and how happy I was during that time. It was like a child who just got her first toy and actually knew how to use it. Before that, I would just look at the books as objects and just attracted by the colorful colors and the image inside. However, after I had discovered my reading ability, I was so excited and kept reading everything that was possible to be read, including a signboard at the road! Afterwards, I started to go to library at school whenever I could. I really enjoyed myself and started to borrow books from school. I love books, perhaps you can say I’m a bookworm. I took care of all my novels very well as if they were still new...
